Department in accordance with the policies and procedures to maintain medical records for use in patient care, medical/legal purposes, research or study.  Oversees ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures covering the privacy of, and access to, patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the healthcare organization’s information privacy practices.

Requirements:

Medical Records Specialist with experience in medical records processes and procedures and basic planning skills.  Requires knowledge of the chart completion processes and JCAHO standards and practices.  Must demonstrate current competence in a supervisory capacity and possess a working knowledge of all medical record department activities.  Knowledge and experience in information privacy laws, access, and release of information.  Knowledge in and the ability to apply the principles of HIM, project management, and change management.  Demonstrated organization, facilitation, and communication skills.

 Certification as an RHIA or RHIT with education and experience relative to the size and scope of the organization.  Previous management experience with knowledge of regulations relative to the Medical Records Department.
