Vice President, Medical Affairs / Regional Chief Medical Officer – Louisiana

The Murphey Group, Inc. has been retained by CHRISTUS Health Central Louisiana to recruit a Vice President, Medical Affairs/Regional Chief Medical Officer.   CHRISTUS Health Central Louisiana (CHCLA) is part of CHRISTUS Health which is a not-for-profit Catholic Health System based in Dallas, TX.

CHCLA consists of:

CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini – a 275 bed acute care facility located in Alexandria, LA with major services that include Open Heart, Oncology, Ortho, Neuro, and Women’s and Children’s Services.

CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center – a 25 bed critical access facility located in Coushatta, LA.

Natchitoches Regional Medical Center – a 78 bed facility managed by CHCLA.

This position assumes overall accountability for oversight of all medical staff and clinical quality along with related activities within the region.  This position is accountable for serving as a catalyst for the development of practice guidelines and care protocols that lead to the achievement of quality biomedical/service outcomes and cost efficiencies.  Additionally the VPMA/Regional CMO is accountable for continuous quality improvement and clinical loss prevention functions as they relate to clinical practice and patient safety.

Position Qualifications:

MD or DO is required.  Ability to obtain Louisiana Medical License.  Board Certification by one of the American Boards of Medical Specialties.

At least five or more years of clinical experience.

Strong preference for prior experience serving as a VPMA, CMO, CQO, or Hospital wide Medical Director.

About the region of Alexandria, LA:

Alexandria, LA is centrally located in the state and is two hours from Baton Rouge and two hours from Shreveport.  Alexandria boasts a new modern airport with short direct flights to Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas.   The population of Alexandria and Pineville is approximately 70,000+.

Section Head, Sleep Medicine and Research – Michigan

The Murphey Group, Inc. has been retained by our client, a 900 bed academic teaching institution, to recruit a Section Head, Sleep Medicine and Research. Our client is part of one of the nation’s largest integrated healthcare delivery systems. The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy, Immunology, Sleep Medicine and Research is seeking a full time senior staff board certified internist/sleep physician to lead its sleep medicine and research program.

The Center is currently clinically staffed by internists, psychiatrists, and otorhinolaryngologists. An ACGME approved fellowship trains 3 candidates yearly. The AASM certified Sleep Center is a 14 bed facility, with four additional beds located at a satellite center, providing 4100 patient visits and 2200 polysomnograms annually. Four PhD. and one MD scientist are responsible for the conduct of NIH and pharmaceutical studies, with international recognition for work in insomnia, circadian disorders, sleep apnea, sleep and pain, sleep pharmacology, and sleep therapies. The ideal candidate would supplement current clinical and research endeavors.

Associate Medical Director, Inpatient Hospice & Palliative Care – Fort Wayne, IN

The Murphey Group, Inc. has been retained by a well-established, independent, non-profit Hospice and Palliative Care organization to recruit an additional physician team member.

Our client has an ADC of 115 for their at-home hospice patients.  Their 14-bed hospice home remains full with a waiting list.  Our client has a palliative care service at a large tertiary hospital and they also do palliative care consults in an outpatient clinic that is next to the hospital.

This Associate Medical Director will spend one week at a time working Monday-Friday doing palliative care consults at the hospital.  The next week will be spent doing three days of rounding in the hospice home and two days seeing patients in the outpatient palliative care clinic.  They are very flexible with this schedule and they can shape the position more based on a
person’s interests, etc.

The current medical team consists of a full-time Medical Director, a part-time team physician, a NP and once this new physician joins the team, call will be 1:3 or 1:4.

Associate Medical Director (2 openings) – Louisville, KY and Elizabethtown, KY

HOSPARUS is a large, nationally recognized, non-profit Hospice organization in Kentucky.  Their website is www.hosparus.org

There is an Associate Medical Director role in Louisville, KY and a person would spend their mornings working in a hospital based hospice inpatient unit (15 beds, will expand to 25 beds in the summer of 2012).  This person will have an opportunity to serve as a liaison to the University of Louisville Medical School as there are residents and fellows that will round through the hospital based hospice inpatient unit.

The afternoons will be spent seeing hospice patients in their homes or nursing home settings.  There is definitely growth opportunity with this role in Louisville.

The second role is based in Elizabethtown, KY and is an Associate Medical Director role strictly doing home visits.  There is growth opportunities with this Elizabethtown role as well.

Medical Director, PACE Program – Richmond, VA

The Murphey Group, Inc. has been retained by the Geriatric Section, Division of General Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University to recruit a Medical Director, Program for All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE Program) in Richmond, VA.

The physician will serve as Medical Director and primary physician for the PACE Program and will engage with the interdisciplinary PACE team in planning activities, clinical IDT meetings, system development, protocol writing, direct patient care, and case management for a group of highly frail older community dwelling persons who are enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid, and are clinically nursing home eligible.

The Medical Director will monitor and oversee the management of the patients across care settings to ensure both good clinical outcomes and control of health care utilization.

This role will be supported by and work in collaboration with other members of the VCU Geriatrics Section, Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine.

Work Monday – Friday only with call 1:12 (by phone only).

Academic Rank: Assistant Professor or above depending on qualifications.

Qualifications: Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice required.  Board Certification or CAQ in Geriatrics highly desirable but not required.

Palliative Care Physician – Youngstown, OH

The Murphey Group, Inc. has been retained to recruit a Palliative Care Physician for an established program in Youngstown, OH.

Our client is a not-for-profit health system in Youngstown, OH.  They have an 18 month old Palliative Care program that currently has one physician who is the Medical Director and the role we are recruiting to fill is a Palliative Care physician role.

Their program is growing and they do consults in hospitals, nursing homes, and cancer clinics.   There is significant support
from NPs and at this time the team is made up of:

-Medical Director, 2 NPs, and 1 CNS.

They are in process of building an inpatient and outpatient program and last year they did 730 Consults.  As of the end of May 2011, they did 400 consults.  A comprehensive Breast Care Center is being built by the hospital at this time.
